What We Built

WebOS was Palm's mobile operating system — briefly popular in the early smartphone era before being discontinued. By the time this project landed, it already had a cult following of loyal users who weren't ready to let their devices gather dust. Sierra Blanco System wanted a crossword game for that platform, and they needed design work that made the experience feel polished and purposeful rather than an afterthought for a dying OS.

We designed xWords+ — a crossword puzzle game with a clean, legible interface suited to WebOS's distinctive card-based UI. The challenge was working within the constraints of an ageing platform while still delivering something that felt considered. Typography, grid layout, and input interactions all needed to work with the hardware's limitations, not against them. It was a small project, but a satisfying design problem.

The Result

xWords+ gave WebOS users a crossword game worth playing. WebOS was already on its way out, but for the people who picked it up, it did exactly what it needed to.
