The Brief
Pooleys Flight Equipment has been a trusted name in aviation training materials for decades. As their library of titles grew and pilots increasingly expected digital access to study materials, the need for a dedicated platform became clear — something purpose-built for aviation rather than adapted from a generic ebook reader.
What We Built
We built Pooleys eBooks using Flutter — a single codebase that delivers a native-quality experience on both iOS and Android. Pilots get the same fast, reliable app regardless of their device, and Pooleys maintain a single product rather than two parallel codebases.
We also built the full backend infrastructure behind the platform — content management, user accounts, payment processing, and title distribution — giving the Pooleys team complete control over their catalogue without depending on third-party platforms.
Key Features
Digital Aviation Library. The core of the platform is a clean, readable digital library housing essential aviation study materials — including the renowned Air Pilot's Manuals series. Pilots can carry their entire reference library on a single device rather than loading a flight bag with heavy physical books.
Integrated In-App Store. Users can browse, purchase, and download new and revised aviation titles, study guides, and exam objectives directly within the app — no need to visit a separate website or manually transfer files. New content is available immediately after purchase.
Offline Access. Downloaded titles are fully accessible without an internet connection. For pilots studying between flights, at airfields with poor connectivity, or during travel, this was a non-negotiable requirement rather than a nice-to-have.
Cross-Device Compatibility. The app is optimised primarily for iPad and iPhone — the devices most commonly used by pilots in a study context — with support extended to compatible Android devices to cover the wider user base.
The Result
A platform that fits naturally into how pilots actually study — on the device they already carry, with the materials they already rely on, available whenever and wherever they need them. Pooleys can now distribute new and updated titles digitally at launch, reaching their audience faster and without the logistics of physical distribution.
